Ørsted has opted to cease work on the 2.4-GW Hornsea 4 offshore wind project in the UK southern North Sea in its current form.

Despite securing a contract for difference (CfD) award from the UK government last September under allocation round, Ørsted cited the negative impacts of rising supply chain costs, higher interest rates and an increased risk in constructing the project within the planned timeline.

As a result, the company has paused further investments and has terminated supply chain contracts ahead of the originally planned FID later this year. However, it will assess options for future development given the continuing seabed rights, grid connection agreement and development consent order.
