Baltica 2 offshore wind farm going ahead, surveys authorized for two nearby projects
Ørsted and Polish energy utility PGE have taken FID on the 1.5-GW Baltica 2 offshore wind farm.
This will be located in the Baltic Sea, roughly 40 km from Ustka on the Polish coast, and it should be fully commissioned in 2027.
Poland’s government has authorized a 25-year inflation-protected contract for difference (CfD) for the wind farm. All permits are in place, with PSE, the Polish transmission system operator.
Ørsted and PGE will manage the development’s full scope, including the offshore transmission and substations. The Port of Gdansk will serve as the storage, pre-assembly and offshore installation base for the wind turbine components.
Cadeler and Fred. Olsen Windcarrier will install the 107 Siemens Gamesa 14 MW-222 wind turbines, with Van Oord installing the foundations and offshore substations.
Bałtyk 2 and 3 offshore wind developments
DeepOcean will perform a subsea survey over both the Bałtyk 2 and 3 offshore wind developments, also in the Polish sector, for co-developers Equinor and Polenergia.
In addition, DeepOcean is responsible for mapping the seabed for potential unexploded ordnance (UXO), with Polish company MEWO managing the UXO surveys with its Amber Cecilia vessel on a subcontract.
Bałtyk 2 will have a combined capacity of 1.44 GW.
“A dedicated survey ROV will have significant efficiency gains when compared with the alternative of using slower work class ROVs configured with a survey sensor payload,” said DeepOcean CEO Øyvind Mikaelsen.
