The five turbines at the 30-MW Hywind Scotland floating offshore wind park in the UK North Sea are offline and undergoing maintenance.
The development, 25 km offshore Peterhead, comprises five Siemens Gamesa 6-MW turbines on SPAR-type foundations. Maintenance is taking place at the Wergeland Base on Norway’s west coast.
The port of Wergeland in Gulen commissioned Sarens to replacement the bearings in the turbines by the end of September. The scope of work includes providing cranes to lift nacelles and blades from the turbines, transporting these components, and delivery of a skidding system to move the generator in and out of the workshop.
Sarens deployed a Liebherr LR12500-1.0 crane with a 90-m main boom and a 66-m luffing jib. The crane’s configuration included four tagline winches to support safe lifting operations.
For transporting the 75-m-long, 26.5-t blades and the nacelles, Sarens used self-propelled modular transporters and a custom-designed lightweight spacer beam.
