Jumbo Offshore has completed transport and installation of the transition pieces for Yunneng Wind Power’s Yunlin wind farm offshore Taiwan.
To prepare for the campaign, the DP2 heavy-lift crane vessel Jumbo Javelin underwent various modifications, including a boom extension to its Jumbo Fly-Jib modular crane boom extension.
This feature can be mounted on any Jumbo J-Class vessel to increase the lifting height. In this case, Jumbo Javelin’s gained the capability to lift the 27-m high transition pieces.
The vessel was loaded out with transition pieces in Kaohsiung, transporting up to four 450-t transition pieces per trip. In total, it transported and installed 80 transition pieces in water depths between 7 m and 35 m.
For the shallower water locations, the vessel switched from installation on DP to installation on anchors.
The Yunlin wind farm in the Taiwan Strait is 8 km to 17 km from the coast of Taiwan, covering an 82-sq-km area. Its 80 wind turbine generators can output up to 640 MW.
