Iberdrola Group has appointed DNV to perform power curve verification at the Bay of St. Brieuc wind farm offshore northwest France, using nacelle lidar technology.
This is Brittany’s first large-scale offshore wind development, located 16 km from Cap Fréhel in the Bay of St. Brieuc in the Côtes-d’Armor district. Iberdrola subsidiary Ailes Marine achieved full operational power from the projects’ 62 turbines in May.
According to DNV, the region is known for its strong winds and high tides.
The scope of the power curve verification project covers the design, commissioning and execution of a power performance measurement campaign for three turbines, and installation of equipment to ensure the campaign fulfills accreditation standards.
Prior to deployment, the lidars will be calibrated at DNV’s test site in Germany to ensure compliance with the updated IEC 61400-50-3:2022 standard. This is said to allow for the use of nacelle-mounted lidars in performance assessments.
The verification process should allow Iberdrola to align actual energy production with initial projections, improving the accuracy of economic models for the wind farm.
