THE NETHERLANDS — Using KENC Engineering's purpose-built Flange Monopile Upending Tool (FMUT), Van Oord has installed the first monopile foundation at an offshore wind farm in the UK.

In the coming months, Van Oord will install 100 monopile foundations at this North Sea location.

KENC Engineering was contracted in first-quarter 2023 by Van Oord to design and build the FMUT. The tool was designed to enable efficient upending and lifting of monopiles and can handle monopiles weighing up to 1,600 tonnes.

Earlier this week, Van Oord’s Aeolus vessel installed the first of 100 monopile foundations at the RWE Sofia offshore wind farm development in the UK southern North Sea.
