TOKYO, JapanClassNK has awarded MODEC and Toyo Construction approval in principle (AiP) for their floating structure and tether system and tether pile foundation design for the TLP type floating offshore wind turbine.

In 2020, MODEC obtained AiP for the floating offshore wind turbines from DNV. For this demonstration project in Japan, the application to ClassNK was intended to pre-empt certain evaluation items for required wind farm certification and classification surveys.

Both companies also conducted a study on Japan's offshore environmental conditions, notably earthquakes and tsunamis, with feedback from ClassNK that will be factored into the design and the development during the demonstration project.
