TOKYO, JapanJERA, the Japanese power producer, has established JERA Nex as a new global renewable energy business.

It will develop, invest in, own and operate various assets in offshore and onshore wind, solar and battery storage.

Last July the company acquired Parkwind, Belgium’s largest offshore wind platform, lifting its total renewable installed capacity to 3 GW. Most of the operational assets and the development pipeline of 10 GW that JERA has built will be transferred to JERA Nex.

JERA aims to develop 20 GW of renewable capacity by 2035, in part through acquisitions and new partnerships. The strategy will be tailored to the prevailing economic conditions.

The company will set up its global headquarters in the UK as the second largest offshore wind development sector, drawing on local expertise to finance and developing renewable energy projects.
