FALMOUTH, UK — Energies PH, via its affiliate San Bernardino Ocean Power Corp., has contracted Inyanga Marine Energy Group to build a 1-MW tidal power generation plant at Capul Island, Northern Samar in the Philippines.

The location, along the San Bernardino Strait, is said to be notable for strong marine currents.

Inyanga is responsible for engineering, procurement and construction. The facility, which will feature the company’s HydroWing tidal stream technology, should be ready to operate by late 2025.

The HydroWing turbines will be connected to the electrical network of the off-grid Capul Island, which presently relies for its power needs on a 750-kW diesel power plant.

The 1-MW tidal array, the project’s first stage, will link to a microgrid network coupled with solar photovoltaic energy and energy storage.

Elsewhere, San Bernardino plans tidal power generation developments in San Antonio Island, Northern Samar, and Calintaan Island in Matnog, Sorsogon.
