NEW ORLEANSRWE and Greater New Orleans (GNO) provided detailed results last month of their one-year collaboration to speed up engagement with Louisiana’s offshore wind supply chain.

They have compiled a database of more than 123 businesses from Lake Charles, Houma/Thibodeaux, Lafayette, New Orleans-Baton Rouge, and across the central and northern regions of the state.

All are said to be operationally ready to support the US national offshore wind supply chain.

Companies in the database can provide services for wind turbine generators, Balance of Plant, installation and commissioning, operation and maintenance, mooring and anchoring and other relevant services.

About 95% are small businesses while 42% have future investment plans to prepare for offshore wind business opportunities.

Amanda Lefton, RWE Offshore Wind Holdings vice president of development East, said, “In a time where every megawatt counts, it’s essential to proactively identify gaps in the supply chain that can be met by local businesses. RWE is committed to building the domestic supply chain and activating businesses of all sizes and capabilities to support the deployment of a clean, US-made energy source.”

GNO President and CEO Michael Hecht added, “The offshore wind supplier database will play an important role in growing the Gulf of Mexico’s offshore wind sector by connecting local suppliers with international developers…”

Included in the database are companies with deep offshore energy experience, specialists in operations and maintenance for port logistics, and others specializing in inspection, health and training, fabrication for jackets and monopiles.

GNO plans frequent updates to reflect new company additions and additional services any existing database company may want to highlight.

Its GNOwind Alliance initiative, with more than 250 member companies in Louisiana, will continue to engage local suppliers and coordinate with state and federal agencies on offshore wind development.

In August 2023, RWE became a provisional leaseholder in BOEM’s first Gulf of Mexico lease auction for an area of seabed 44 miles off the coast of Lake Charles that could support about 2 GW of offshore wind capacity.

RWE has signed an MoU with Entergy to assess delivery of clean energy from offshore wind to clients in Louisiana and Texas.
