COPENHAGEN, Denmark  Copenhagen Energy has welcomed the federal government’s decision to open consultation in November for Western Australia’s first offshore wind zone (Perth/Bunbury).

The company has submitted plans for initial consideration under the EPBC Act for three offshore wind farms. Leeuwin, with up to 200 wind turbines, is planned for Commonwealth waters between Mandurah and Bunbury, 130 km south of Perth. The others are Samphire, north of Perth, and MidWest, both also in Commonwealth waters.

Joy Francis-Hayes, development Manager, Australia, said the announcement was important for the development of a new offshore energy sector in Western Australia and would provide certainty to the market.
