TOKYO, JAPAN – Equinor has begun supplying power from the Hywind Tampen floating wind farm in the northern Norwegian North Sea to oil production facilities at the offshore Snorre complex.

Currently the wind farm has 11 turbines in operations generating 88 MW combined, according to INPEX (its subsidiary INPEX Idemitsu Norge is a partner in the development).

Last November, the initially installed turbines started delivering electricity to the Gullfaks field complex, the first floating wind project to power offshore oil and gas installations worldwide.

Hywind Tampen should cut CO2 emissions from the two field centers by about 200,000 t per year by reducing the volume of gas needed to operate the platforms’ gas turbine generators, INPEX added.
