Maersk Supply Service to install EFGL floating wind turbines offshore France

Eiffage Métal has contracted Maersk Supply Service to transport and install three 10-MW wind turbines at the pilot EFGL floating wind farm in the Mediterranean Sea offshore southern France.

LYNGBY, Denmark  Eiffage Métal has contracted Maersk Supply Service to transport and install three 10-MW wind turbines at the pilot floating wind farm EFGL (Eoliennes Flottantes du Golfe du Lion) in the Mediterranean Sea offshore southern France.

The scope of work includes engineering, transport, delivery to site and offshore installation of the floating wind turbines, and procurement/installation of the mooring systems.

EFGL is located in 70 m of water, 16 km off the coast of Leucate in the Natural Marine Park of the Golfe du Lion. The co-developers are Ocean Winds (a joint venture of EDPR/ENGIE) and La Banque des Territoires, Groupe Caisse des Dépôts, with plans to provide power for 50,000 homes and businesses.

The three turbines will be installed on semisubmersible WindFloat units designed by Principle Power.

Offshore operations should take place in fourth-quarter 2023, involving two deepwater anchorhandlers from Maersk Supply Service’s fleet, a T-class and an M-class vessel.
