LONDON Ørsted’s Hornsea 2 wind farm in the UK southern North Sea is now fully operational.

The 1.3-GW complex, said to be the world’s largest offshore wind farm to date, comprises 165 wind turbines, 89 km from the Yorkshire Coast.

It is situated alongside Hornsea 1 in the Hornsea zone, which covers an offshore area of more than 2,000 sq km. The next project under development is the 2.8-GW Hornsea 3.

Ørsted now has 13 operational offshore wind farms in UK waters, providing 6.2 GW of renewable electricity.

Power generated by the Hornsea 2 turbines is sent through 390 km of subsea export cables to Horseshoe Point in Lincolnshire.
