MOLDE, Norway  Motus Technology AS announced it will deliver 3D-motion compensated cranes to two offshore wind vessels from ULSTEIN Verft.

The vessels are contracted by Olympic Subsea ASA in Fosnavåg outside Ålesund, with delivery in 2024. With a diesel-electric propulsion system and battery solution, as well as a design prepared for methanol fuel, the vessels enable zero-emission in offshore wind.

The 3D-motion compensated cranes are based on Motus Marine Cranes (MMC240) and have a purpose-designed 3D-motion compensation system. Low weight and COG of the crane, combined with smart power management, ensures that the energy consumption is kept to a minimum.

With this 3D-system and an intelligent and proven control system, the company said the cranes are optimized for lifting cargo to and from an offshore windmill in a safe and energy efficient manner.

Vessel motions are automatically compensated ensuring the crane hook is steady during lift-off and landing on the windmill landing platform. The cranes are equipped with a separate heavy-lift winch also prepared for active heave compensation, making the cranes capable of handling cargo on deck as well as subsea.
