    Ørsted, Eversource sanction South Fork offshore New York

    South Fork Wind, a 50-50 joint venture between Ørsted and Eversource, has taken the final investment decision on New York’s first offshore wind farm.

    FREDERICIA, Denmark – South Fork Wind, a 50-50 joint venture between Ørsted and Eversource, has taken the final investment decision on New York’s first offshore wind farm.

     Located 35 mi (56 km) east of Montauk Point, Long Island, the 130-MW South Fork wind farm is expected to be completed in 2023. The power will be generated by twelve 11-MW Siemens Gamesa turbines.

    It is expected to power 70,000 homes.

    Last month, South Fork Wind received final approval from the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management for its construction and operations plan, the final in the agency’s review of the project.
