OSLO, NorwayVårgrønn and Agder Energi are teaming up with Green Investment Group (GIG) to bid for an offshore wind farm site in Norway’s Sørlige Nordsjø II area, comprising up to 3 GW of new capacity.

This is one of two areas opened to licensing for offshore wind development by Norway’s government, in relatively shallow waters and with good wind conditions suited to large-scale power production.

“Creating a new industry is Norway’s primary objective for developing offshore wind in Norway,” said Steffen Syvertsen, CEO of Agder Energi. “We are working closely with the Norwegian supplier industry look forward to contributing to the consortium’s strong commitment to local jobs creation and supplier activity.”

Vårgrønn, a Norwegian renewable energy developer founded by Eni and HitecVision, and Agder Energi will each own 37.5%, and GIG 25%, of the consortium, with Vårgrønn acting as project manager.

Agder Energi is a Norwegian producer of hydroelectric power, with long experience in subsea interconnectors and power system engineering. It is the regional grid operator in the Norwegian landing area for the onshore connection from Sørlige Nordsjø II.

GIG develops and manages offshore wind farms worldwide, and recently bid successfully to develop a 1.5-GW offshore wind project in the UK Crown Estate’s Offshore Wind Leasing Round 4.
