LEIDSCHENDAM, the Netherlands – Germany’s Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency has awarded Fugro a geotechnical investigations contract.

The program, to be conducted in three parts over the coming three years, relates to potential offshore wind farm development areas in the German North Sea.

Fugro will undertake geotechnical data acquisition from multiple geotechnical drilling and seabed testing vessels, followed by laboratory testing and reporting by its German and UK laboratories.

The first phase work should start at the end of this month with seabed cone penetration testing (CPT) using the Seacalf Mk-V Deepdrive system.

This will be followed by drilling of the boreholes with downhole CPT testing, sampling and geophysical logging from dedicated geotechnical vessels.

Future wind farm developers will use the lab results to prepare their bids.
