LEIDEN, the Netherlands – Heerema’s semisubmersible crane vessel Sleipnir has installed the RCS and OSS platform jackets at Ørsted’s Hornsea Two offshore wind farm in the UK North Sea.

Located 89 km (55 mi) off the Yorkshire coast, Hornsea Two will consist of 165 turbines with a combined total capacity of 1.4 GW.

BigLift Shipping’s BigLift Barentsz transported the jackets from SMOE in Batan, Indonesia to the UK east coast.

On Sept. 29, the Sleipnir traveled to the offshore substation location and installed the 5,000-metric ton (5,512-ton) jacket after transferring the 1,500-metric ton (1,653-ton) reactive compensation station jacket and piles from the heavy transport vessel to its deck. After moving to the shallow-water RCS location, the Sleipnir installed the jacket.

The Sleipnir will return to Hornsea Two next year.

This is the vessel’s second project in the wind market this season. Last month the Sleipnir installed the jacket for the Hollandse Kust Zuid transformer station in the Dutch North Sea.
