HONG KONG – CNOOC Ltd.’s first offshore wind project has connected to the grid and begun to generate power.

The project is in the sea area near Jiangsu Province. The central location of wind farm is about 39 km (24 mi) offshore, with a water depth of 12 m (39 ft).

The 300-MW project is expected to feature 67 wind turbines. It is scheduled to be fully operational by the end of the year.

Annual on-grid power generation is expected to reach about 860 million kWh, which is estimated to save 279,000 tons of standard coal equivalent, and reduce CO2 emissions by 571,000 tons per year, according to CNOOC.

The company holds 47% interest in the offshore wind power project.
