Two subsea tiebacks in prospect at Who Dat Field in US Gulf of Mexico
LLOG and its partners are progressing development studies for the Who Dat East and Who Dat South discoveries in the US Gulf of Mexico as subsea tiebacks to the Who Dat semisubmersible platform.
In partner Karoon Energy's half-year 2025 results, the company said work on Who Dat East had entered the design phase, including facilities engineering and cost estimations to support a potential FID in late 2025/early 2026.
A debottlenecking study, the company added, confirmed that only minor modifications would be needed to accommodate a subsea tieback development, subject to system availability.
Who Dat East, with estimated 2C resources of 15.7 MMboe, would be initially a one-well development.
Work also continues on the options for Who Dat Souh (7.4 MMboe 2C), with a focus on reducing subsurface uncertainty and development optimization.
During a recent meeting, the partnership discussed other ways of improving production efficiency and slowing natural decline from the Who Dat Field. They expect to start drilling the E6 sidetrack late next month, with production expected to start during the fourth quarter at an initial rate of 3,000 to 5,000 boe/d, assuming a success.
A further sidetrack could follow in the first half of next year.
Other recent technical studies have identified opportunities for improving reliability and reduced process bottlenecks, Karoon added.
