INGLESIDE, Texas – Shell’s Whale FPU has arrived in Ingleside, Texas, its last stop before heading to Alaminos Canyon in the Gulf of Mexico.

Dutch offshore transportation services company Boskalis reports that its largest semisubmersible heavy transport vessel, the Boka Vanguard, transported the 25,000-ton Whale FPU to the US Gulf.

Shell made the final investment decision for the Whale deepwater development in July 2021. The FPU features a 99% replicated hull and an 80% replication of the topsides from the Vito project.

In October, Seatrium announced that it had completed the fabrication and integration of the FPU topsides, living quarters, and hull. The Whale FPU comprises a topside module and a four-column semisubmersible floating hull.

The Whale FPU is scheduled to go online in 2024.
