DALLAS, TX  Kosmos Energy has discovered oil in the ultradeepwater Tiberius prospect in Keathley Canyon Block 964 in the Gulf of Mexico (GoM).

Occidental and Equinor are the other partners.

The exploratory well, in 7,500 ft (2,300 m) water depth, tested a four-way structural trap in the outboard Wilcox trend, encountering about 250 ft (~75 m) of net oil pay in the primary target.

Following completion of wireline logging, casing is currently being run to the target depth so the well can serve as a future oil producer. Tiberius is 6 miles southeast of the Occidental-operated Lucius SPAR platform.

The well was drilled to a TVD of about 25,800 ft (7,800 m).

Kosmos now plans rock and fluid analysis to establish the reservoir’s production potential and will work with the partners on subsea tieback options.
