DALLAS, TX An affiliate of Beacon Offshore Energy has signed a rig commitment letter to drill and complete three wells for the Winterfell oil development in the Green Canyon area of the US Gulf of Mexico (GoM), starting mid-2023.

This follows the partners approving the field development in September.

According to Kosmos Energy, further agreements should follow during the next few months on the host facility that will handle the production and on the midstream export. The partners are targeting first oil in first-quarter 2024.

During the third quarter of 2022, Kosmos completed the acquisition of an additional 3.2% interest in the Winterfell area in Green Canyon Blocks 943, 944, 987 and 988 and an additional 1.4% interest in Green Canyon Blocks 899 and 900. The acquisition takes Kosmos' overall interest in Winterfell to 25% in total.

Elsewhere in the GoM, the Delta House turnaround, partly extended due to the impact of Hurricane Ian, finished in mid-October. But the facility then experienced two weeks of unplanned downtime caused by an issue with the gas compressor, although this has since been resolved.

The Kodiak sidetrack well was brought online in early September. Although well results and initial production were in line with expectations, well productivity has since declined and plans are now underway for a workover.
