HOUSTON Seadrill’s Sevan Louisiana semisubmersible has started drilling Talos Energy’s Lime Rock prospect in the US Gulf of Mexico, close to the company’s Ram Powell facility in Mississippi Canyon.

Previously, the rig’s recompletion on the Bulleit project had been behind schedule due to persistently strong loop currents in the Green Canyon area.

After Lime Rock, Talos plans to drill Venice, another prospect close to Ram Powell facility, before returning to finalize the Bulleit completion early next year.

Next up for the company will likely be a well on the Rigolets prospect close to Pompano. Talos has a 60% interest in the prospects. If the campaign proves successful, first oil could follow within 12 to 18 months, at rates between 5 and 15,000 boe/d.

Drilling is also underway from the Pompano platform on the Mount Hunter prospect with results and first production anticipated in first-quarter 2023.

Diamond Offshore's BlackHornet rig spud the Puma West appraisal well in Green Canyon last month, with a planned depth of about 26,700 ft.

During the third quarter, production from one of the company’s Tornado wells generated increased water volumes, mainly caused by the ongoing subsurface water flood project at the Phoenix Field.

Although water breakthrough occurred earlier than expected, it is within the range of projected outcomes in previous reservoir simulations, Talos said.
