In the eastern Mediterranean Sea, Greece’s Ministry of Environment & Energy issued a Call for Tenders earlier this year for exploration and production of hydrocarbons in four offshore areas: Blocks Α2 and South of Peloponnese, and Blocks South of Crete 1 and South of Crete 2.

Local company Helleniq Energy reported Sept. 10 that it has teamed up with Chevron to participate in the tender.

Helleniq Energy already has operated and non-operated interests in six Greek offshore areas with exclusive E&P rights. Chevron is new to the country, but operates the Tamar and Leviathan gas fields in the deepwater Israeli sector to the east.

HEREMA Hellenic Hydrocarbons and Energy Resources Management Co. manages state’s exclusive rights concerning exploration, storage and exploitation of hydrocarbons, offshore wind, and carbon capture and storage.

Chevron expressed interested in exploration from southwest of the Peloponnese peninsula to west of the island of Crete, Greece, the country's ministry of environment and energy said in late January.
