STAVANGER, NorwayThe Deepsea Yantai semisubmersible, operated by Odfjell Drilling, has spud the Ofelia exploration well for Neptune Energy in the Norwegian North Sea.

Well 35/6-3 S is 13 km north of the Gjøa Field, within the Neptune-operated PL929 license.

If it delivers a commercial discovery, the Ofelia prospect could be tied back to the Gjøa platform, potentially in parallel with Hamlet2 for a “low cost and carbon efficient development," the company said.

The reservoir target is the Lower Cretaceous Agat Formation, at a depth of about 2,570 m.

Depending on the outcome, a sidetrack (35/6-3 A) could follow.

Partners include Neptune Energy (operator, 40%), Wintershall Dea (20%), Lundin Energy Norway (10%), Pandion Energy (20%) and DNO (10%).
