STAVANGER, Norway  Equinor has shut down the Sleipner complex in the Norwegian North Sea following two gas leaks on July 11.

The first occurred in the morning in a contained area related to a turbine on the Sleipner A platform, with the incident quickly resolved.

Late last night, however, as the process of resuming production and depressurization was underway, another leak occurred on the Sleipner R riser platform.

According to Norwegian trunklines operator Gassco, Equinor has localized the fault and will undertake repairs to safely resume normal operations.

The authorities have been notified and further investigations will follow into the causes of the leaks.

Sleipner is a critical hub in Norway’s gas transport system and the incident has direct consequences for the gas flow from the Nyhamna processing plant on the mid-Norwegian coast, and the reception terminals at Easington, England and Zeebrugge, Belgium. The duration and consequences for gas deliveries will be updated on umm.gassco.no.
