LONDONSerica Energy has started production from the Rhum R3 well in the UK northern North Sea.

The Rhum field is in a water depth of 109 m (357 ft). Production started in December 2005 via subsea completions to the Bruce platform complex 44 km (27 mi) to the south.

Original developer bp had planned three wells but the third of these, R3, was drilled but not put into production due to technical issues.

Serica’s program involved recovering equipment that had been left in the well and removing an obstruction that was impacting parts of the downhole completion.

Since R3 started up on Aug. 23, work has continued to optimize production rates from Bruce, Rhum and Keith, the other satellite field.

Over the past week Rhum’s gross output has averaged over 190 MMcf/d of gas and 1,400 b/d of condensate, compared with a maximum rate of just 26,000 boe/d prior to well coming online.

Serica will undertake further work over the next few weeks to optimize and stabilize production.
