LONDON – The Oil and Gas Authority’s revised strategy, submitted to the UK’s Parliament in mid-December, has come into force.

This takes into account Britain’s energy transition and details various net zero obligations for the oil and gas industry.

These include intensifying efforts to reduce production emissions, support for carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects, and pursuing clean hydrogen production.

Currently oil and gas provide around 75% of the UK’s energy consumption, with government forecasts suggesting both will remain part of the energy mix for the foreseeable future.

At the same time the OGA believes the industry has the necessary skills, infrastructure and capital to help ensure the net zero target is achieved.

In addition, the revised strategy calls for industry to collaborate with the supply chain on CCS schemes. The OGA will monitor developments and ensure carbon costs are considered in regulatory decisions.
