OSLO, Norway – Thirty-three companies have submitted applications for Norway’s Awards in Predefined Areas (APA) 2020 licensing round.

According to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD), most of the applicants are already active on the Norwegian shelf.

Minister of Petroleum and Energy Tina Bru said: “Predictable and stable framework conditions and an active licensing policy are two of the main pillars in the government’s petroleum policy.

“The high interest expressed by the companies in new exploration acreage shows that our long-term petroleum policy has the desired effect, also during challenging times.”

The NPD’s exploration director, Torgeir Stordal added: “It’s gratifying to see the continued high level of interest in investigating new exploration acreage, even though there have been many awards in the last two APA rounds.”

The predefined area offered in the Norwegian Sea was expanded during preparations for this year’s round.

The NPD will now start evaluating the bids, with a focus on geological understanding and plans for exploration. License offers should follow early in 2021.
