KEPCO, POGC share strategic plans for offshore Iran projects

KEPCO is preparing to resume exploration in the shallow-water Iranian sector of the Caspian Sea, and POGC has developed a management plan for the South Pars gas compression project.

Khazar Exploration and Production Co. (KEPCO) is preparing to resume exploration in the shallow-water Iranian sector of the Caspian Sea, according to news service Shana.

Repairs are underway to a semisubmersible platform that has been idle since 2014, which will be used for the campaign.

KEPCO CEO Mohammad-Hossein Daneshfar, speaking at Iran’s 29th International Oil, Gas, Refining & Petrochemical Exhibition, added that a return to deepwater drilling in the Caspian was also a priority for the company.

In other news offshore Iran, Pars Oil and Gas Co. (POGC) has developed a strategic management plan for the South Pars gas compression project, designed to increase gas production from the field to 722 MMcm/d.

CEO Touraj Dehqani added that plans were in place to develop further offshore gas fields over the next five years, including Kish, North Pars, Balal and Farzad.

At Kish, the current production capacity is 28 MMcm/d, with a refinery under construction at Bandar-e Aftab. Full-scale drilling at Kish will begin within a month, and first production from the development should follow in three to four years.
