TEHRAN, Iran  Pars Oil and Gas Co. (POGC) expects to drill 35 new wells on the South Pars gas field in the Persian Gulf to maintain gas production levels, according to news service Shana.

During an event staged last week at National Iranian Oil Co.’s conference center, Shobeir Nabavi, deputy head of POGC’s Reservoir Operations Engineering Unit, said the company remained focused on sustaining production from South Pars and developing other offshore gas fields such as Kish, North Pars, Bilal, Golshan and Ferdowsi, Farzad A and B, along with the oil layers of South Pars.

Kish, which extends from beneath Kish Island into the Persian Gulf, has been under development since 2018. Phase 1, due to be completed next year, comprises 14 wells with a combined gas production capacity of 28.3 MMcm/d. The field contains an estimated 56 Tcf in place.

POGC has been performing engineering studies for North Pars, situated south of Bushehr province, with reserves of 55 Tcf.

As for Bilal, one appraisal well is drilling with plans for seven further wells, which would lift production to 14.1 MMcm/d.

To date, South Pars has produced 75.5 Tcf, he continued, adding, “The initial pressure of the South Pars gas reservoir in the Kangan and Dalan layers, which are located at a depth of 3,000 m in the Persian Gulf, has decreased from about 5,200 psi to 3,500 psi during 20 years of exploitation.”

A total of 341 wells have been drilled and completed from 38 platforms, with 308 wells active.

Following commissioning of South Pars Phase 11, overall production capacity should rise to 730 MMcm/d.

Nabavi added that POGC has secured permits to drill a further 35 wells on the field over the next two to three years.

Alireza Mehdizadeh, CEO of Iranian Offshore Oil Co. (IOOC), said talks were underway on awarding contracts for drilling 21 offshore wells, which would involve IOR and EOR.
