Petrobras has proven more oil in the giant Búzios field in the presalt Santos basin offshore Brazil.
Well 9-BUZ-99D-RJS was drilled in the field’s western area, 189 km offshore Rio de Janeiro, in a zone beneath the main reservoir. Water depth was 1,940 m.
Tests at a depth of 5,600 m confirmed the presence of oil reservoirs via electrical profiles, which will undergo laboratory analysis.
Petrobras has also started operations at the field’s sixth FPSO, Almirante Tamandaré, built at the CMHI shipyard in China.
This is the first of several higher-capacity platforms ordered for the ongoing development of Búzios, with the potential to produce up to 225,000 b/d of oil and to process 12 MMcm/d of gas.
The company plans to eventually connect seven oil producers, six water and gas injectors, one dedicated gas injector, and one producer/injector to the subsea infrastructure.
By the second half of this year, production should have reached 1 MMb/d of oil.
Almirante Tamandaré, leased from SBM Offshore, features a closed flare system to reduce emissions and heat recovery technologies that should limit onboard demand for additional energy.
