Shell expands acreage offshore Brazil

Shell has acquired five exploratory blocks in the Santos basin offshore Brazil in the ANP’s 17th bid round.

RIO DE JANEIRO – Shell Brasil Petróleo Ltda has acquired five exploratory blocks in the Santos basin offshore Brazil in the ANP’s 17th bid round.

Shell will be the operator of blocks SM-1709, SM-1707, SM-1715, SM-1717, and SM-1719. In block SM-1709, Shell will have a 70% stake, in partnership with Ecopetrol, with a 30% stake.

The company will pay R$35.1 million ($6.4 million) in signing bonuses.

Shell now has interests in 28 exploratory blocks, one field under development, and 14 fields in production in Brazil.
