TORONTO – Guyana’s Department of Energy (DOE) has approved the first renewal period of the offshore Orinduik petroleum prospecting license.

The license, first signed in January 2016, now runs through Jan. 13, 2023.

The DOE has also ratified the transfer of Total E&P Guyana’s 25% interest in the Orinduik petroleum agreement to a new company jointly owned 60% by Total and 40% by Qatar Petroleum, named TOQAP Guyana.

Tullow Oil remains as operator (60%), with Eco Atlantic (15%) being the other partner.

Colin Kinley, COO of Eco Atlantic, said: “The JV partners continue with advanced reprocessing of the geophysical data, in combination with the additional information obtained from regional drilling results, and further evaluation of the Joe and Jethro discoveries.

“The partnership is focused on its multiple light sweet oil prospects on the Orinduik block, and we are high-grading candidates for the next drilling program, with the operator expected to select targets later this year.”
