MELBOURNE, Australia  Shell Australia has agreed to sell to bp its interests in the Browse project offshore northwest Australia, subject to regulatory approvals.

According to Shell, the project is no longer a strategic fit with its global portfolio.

Woodside Energy operates the Browse joint venture, which is seeking to develop the Brecknock, Calliance and Torosa fields 425 km north of Broome in the offshore Browse basin.

In September 2018, the partners opted to progress the project to the concept definition phase. The proposed development would feature two FPSOs facilities delivering 11.4 MMt per year of LNG/LPG and gas (for local use), and a 900-km pipeline connecting to existing North West Shelf Project infrastructure.

Another option under evaluation is an associated carbon capture and storage solution.
