MELBOURNE, Australia  ConocoPhillips and its partners plan to drill up to six exploration wells on two permits in the Otway Basin offshore southeast Australia.

According to 3D Oil, which has 20% interests in the VIC/P79 and T/49P exploration permits, the gas targets in the Bass Strait are all close to production facilities and infrastructure that predominantly supply the east coast market.

ConocoPhillips Australia is preparing a drilling Environmental Plan (EP) for the program, which would be spread between 2024-2028. This will provide flexibility to drill multiple locations within the permits during the EP window.

Two wells could be drilled initially in late 2024/2025, possibly starting in October 2024 depending on regulatory approvals.

The partners will select the final drill targets on completion of the Sequoia 3D MMS processing and interpretation project, and 3D seismic reprocessing/interpretation activities in VIC/P79.

ConocoPhillips is also considering potential synergies with other operators planning drilling campaigns around a similar time frame in the area.
