Seascape gains provisional extension to small fields area offshore Malaysia
Seascape Energy has received a Letter of Agreement from Petronas, via Malaysia Petroleum Management, concerning an areal extension to its Temaris Cluster Small Field Asset PSC offshore Peninsular Malayisia.
The increased acreage to the north and east expands the PSA coverage by around 45% to ~1,770 sq km.
Seascape claims this presents potential for doubling the ~1 tcf of net mean prospective resources currently identified on the Temaris PSC.
The company also expects to benefit from new 3D seismic data that Petronas will acquire in late 2026 over the Temaris Area Extension, as part of a regional program.
The proposed extension, which remains subject to execution of final documentation, covers the continuation of the Temaris channelized Miocene sandstone system play.
Seascape secured the PSC in June 2025 under Malaysia’s Discovered Resource Opportunity process in the MBR 2025 round.
Temaris contains two gas discoveries, Tembakau and Mengkuang, with exploration upside in shallow water (~70 m). The permit is on the western flank of the Malay basin.
Seascape conduced a subsurface review of Temaris and the surrounding area following its award, also completing seismic reprocessing using Full Waveform Inversion techniques.
This led to identification of a potentially significant extension of the Miocene sandstone play proven by the two gas discoveries. The channel features are said to exhibit a strong seismic amplitude response when gas-charged and can be seen across the newly enlarged PSC area in multiple horizons.
Seascape has commissioned Sproule ERCE to undertake an update to the original Competent Persons Report that identified 950 bcf of resources on the PSC across a variety of trapping styles and horizons. The updated report should be published shortly.
Petronas’ new 3D seismic data should de-risk a potential extension of the Mengkuang discovery that Seascape spotted on the legacy 2D data.
Its additional work under the terms of the Temaris Area Extension include processing of the new 3D seismic and drilling of a contingent exploration well in the area. Seascape has now restarted the Temaris farm-out process and aims to bring a partner into the PSC by the end of this year.
