Sunda Energy's recent business update reveals the company's project advances focused on gas assets in Southeast Asia.

Sunda expects up to nine new service contracts to be signed in the near future for oil and gas activities in the Philippines.

Last August, the company applied for two petroleum service contracts for offshore license areas in the 1st Conventional Energy Bid Round of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao in the Philippines.

The two blocks are in the Sulu Sea and are said to contain gas discoveries with upside potential. Sunda’s applications were on a non-operated basis (37.5%) in a joint venture with three other Philippine E&P independents.

Earlier this month, the JV partners met with the Philippines authorities following earlier discussions in Manila in July.

In Timor-Leste, senior managers of Sunda visited the capital Dili last month for consultations with officials concerning the planned Chuditch-2 gas appraisal well in the Timor Sea, which was recently postponed.

The company’s subsidiary SundaGas Banda Unipessoal has received a revised proposal from the Timor-Leste helicopter company that would support the planned offshore drilling operation. It is also in talks with various rig operators ahead of a full tender exercise for a resumption of the drilling campaign.

In the meantime, SundaGas has also received a formal response and recommended changes to its environmental impact statement and environmental management plan from the Evaluation Committee, and it expects to submit updated drafts of both documents in September.
