Petronas Carigali has taken a final investment decision on developing the Kasawari CO2 Sequestration (CCS) project offshore Sarawak.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia  Petronas Carigali has taken a final investment decision on developing the Kasawari CO2 Sequestration (CCS) project offshore Sarawak.

This follows the award of the EPCIC contract for the project early in November to Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering.

The CCS project is in Block SK316, 200 km offshore Bintulu. It should reduce volumes of CO2 emitted through flaring by 3.3 MM t of CO2e annually.

Petronas Carigali CEO Hasliza Othman said, “This project is expected to become the catalyst in achieving end-to-end CCS capability development within Petronas and the first step in unlocking Malaysia’s potential as a regional CCS solutions hub.”
