ExxonMobil secures three ultra-deep blocks offshore Mauritania

IRVING, Texas – ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Mauritania Deepwater has signed production-sharing contracts with Mauritania’s government for three deepwater offshore blocks.
Blocks C22, C17, and C14 are roughly 124 mi (200 km) offshore and span close to 8.4 million acres, in water depths ranging from 3,300-11,500 ft (1,000-3,500 m).
Initial exploration activities will include acquisition of seismic data and analysis.
ExxonMobil will operate with a 90% interest, the remainder held by Société Mauritanienne des Hydrocarbures et de Patrimoine Minier.
