US, GoM -- Hurricane Dean, the first hurricane in the Atlantic this season, has entered the eastern Caribbean Sea enroute to the US Gulf Coast, according to a path projection by the national weather service.

Dean has steadily strengthened into a category 3 hurricane with sustained winds clocked at 125 mph. The hurricane is expected to impact Jamaica and the Cayman Islands on Sunday and Monday, respectively.

While it is too early to tell what, if any, impact Dean will have on the US, the weather service says, the US western Gulf Coast including Texas and Louisiana will want to keep a close eye on Dean through the weekend into next week.
