HOUSTON -- The new InSite GeoTap IDS sensor from Sperry Drilling has won an OTC Spotlight Award, reports Halliburton. The tool can sample reservoir fluids with LWD technology to save time and with minimal contamination or multiple samples.
Because it does not require a wireline run to sample, the GeoTap IDS saves time. This is touted as an advantage specially in high-cost drilling such as deepwater exploration wells. With the samples taken during drilling, Halliburton says there is less contamination of the reservoir by drilling fluids which also saves time in that pump-out for clean samples may be reduced.
When added to Halliburton’s technology, the tool results in true formation testing while drilling, says the company. This can optimize wellbore placement for maximum production.
