Statoil gets licenses offshore Canada

Four new licenses offshore Canada have joined Statoil’s holdings.

STAVANGER, Norway – Four new licenses offshore Canada have joined Statoil’s holdings. One is a Significant Discovery License and the other three are Exploration Licenses off Newfoundland. The awards came through a sale by the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board.

The SDL is an extension of Statoil’s current Mizzen license. Statoil is operator with a 65% interest and with Husky Energy as partner.

Two of the ELs are in the Flemish Pass basin/Central Ridge region, approximately 500 km (311 mi) offshore Newfoundland. For the license closest to the Mizzen SDL, Statoil is operator with a 65% interest and Husky Energy as partner. For the license in the northern part of the Flemish Pass basin, Statoil is operator with a 75% interest and with Repsol E&P Canada Ltd as partner.

The last EL is in the Jeanne d’Arc basin, approximately 250 km (155 mi) offshore Newfoundland. Statoil Canada has a 50% interest and Husky Energy is the operating partner.
