This presentation describes a compact, modular approach to implementing offshore GTL processing for associated gas. Results of the Petrobras-funded pilot plan and the commercial aspects of offshore GTL as an associated gas solution are examined. This pilot plant uses technology originating with the UK Atomic Energy Authority and developed for integration with an FPSO by CompactGTL. The process converts associated gas into syncrude which is blended on the FPSO with the liquid oil produced. The process uses proprietary catalysts and reactor design derived from plate-and-fin heat exchanger manufacturing methods. It is modular, with multiple reactors in parallel. The author considers the economics of the CompactGTL design and describes a successful pilot plant program.
