STAVANGER, Norway – Kongsberg Maritime has announced at ONS 2010 that it received a Letter of Intent from Statoil on a five-year frame agreement as one partner able to bid to supply safety and automation systems (SAS) for future Statoil Green Field Projects. The agreement allows for contract extension and covers both offshore and onshore installations.

Kongsberg Maritime had a similar agreement with Statoil during 2001 - 2008, where it supplied sophisticated SAS installations to three major Statoil projects: the Kristin FPU, the Langeled gas receiving facilities and the Gjøa FPU.

The Gjøa SAS is unique as it is the first FPU ever to be powered entirely from shore. It features a SAS station at the onshore power transforming station, which can be remotely operated using a 100-km (62-mi) long fiber-optic connection that makes it a part of the full SAS network.
