Statoil completes Morvin appraisal well

Statoil ASA, operator of Production Licence 134B, completed an appraisal well on Morvin (6506/11-8), which is on Haltenbanken.

The objective was to prove hydrocarbons in the southern part of Morvin, discovered in 2001.

The reservoir is sandstones from the Early and Middle Jurassic. The well was drilled to 4893 m and completed in Early Jurassic. Preliminary analyses indicates oil extends into the Middle Jurassic.

The licensees in PL 134B are Statoil 50%, Eni Norge AS 30%, Norsk Hydro Produksjon AS 14%, and Total E&P Norge AS 6%.

The discovery is 8 km north of Kristin field.

The well was drilled by West Alpha. After completing plugging operations on Morvin, the rig will move to another well for Statoil on PL 314.
