HOUSTON -- Houston Mayor Bill White welcomed more than 2,000 participants to the 2007 Deep Offshore Technology International Conference and Exhibition at the George R. Brown convention center in Houston Tuesday, Nov. 28.
Mayor White championed the oil and gas industry, calling the deepwater exploration and production efforts now underway, "the single greatest scientific and engineering challenge ever undertaken byHomo Sapiens."
Mayor White also endorsed the mission of the conference, in particular, the goal of encouraging the development of young professionals.
The mayor concluded with a hope that participants would make the most of the conference, which, he said, "has attracted some of the greatest minds in the world."
