OSLO, Norway -- Norway's Petroleum Directorate has granted drilling permits to Hydro and ENI Norge. Hydro is to drill an exploration well in Production License 263, using the semisubmersibleTransocean Winner.

Various operators drilled four wells between 1982 and 2001 across the acreage, one result being the Sigrid gas-condensate discovery. The permit lies south and east of the Heidrun and Aasgard fields off mid-Norway.

NPD has also sanctioned ENI's latest planned well in the Barents Sea, in PL 229. SemisubPolar Pioneer will drill the exploratory well, again the fifth in the license area. The location is 50 km south-east of the Snohvit field.
